Job Role
This truly unique role will allow the successful candidate to support and influence key health & safety initiatives across the oil and gas industry in the UK. The successful candidate will be required to undertake a number of duties including:
- To make a positive contribution to making the UK the safest place to work in the worldwide oil and gas industry through development of strategic, regulatory and other proposals identified through analysis or studies undertaken, or those put forward by government, Oil & Gas Members, Step Change, regulatory bodies and other stakeholders, in respect of the industry’s H&S regulatory regime and performance.
- To ensure that appropriate information and managed resources are available to deliver agreed work and that communication is maintained with Oil & Gas UK members and others, especially regulators.
- Working with the Director, to lead, manage and provide support for work groups and forums as required.
- Provide direction and support to Member Companies in delivering the objectives of the Oil & Gas UK’s Sustainability Strategy.
- Identify emerging health and safety technical issues affecting the industry determine their significance and to develop solutions linked to Oil & Gas UK’s strategic priorities.
Core Competencies
- Extensive experience in a senior operational role in the oil & gas industry.
- Particular knowledge of health and safety issues affecting the oil & gas industry, the regulatory framework and an understanding of how legislation can be influenced.
- Excellent communicator with oral and written fluency and the ability to keep others effectively informed at all times.
- Ability to think clearly, creatively & decisively. Strong listening and analytical skills enabling the absorption of complex information quickly to develop a clear understanding.
- Ability to prepare and present information clearly and effectively to facilitate decision-making and issues-management.
- An effective networker.
- Recognised within their existing organisation as a persuasive influencer of policy/technical development.
- Demonstrable self starter with clear evidence of initiating policy/technical actions in health and safety.
- Energy and ability to work within and across teams, to facilitate effective decision-making and issues-management across Oil & Gas UK. A team player with effective project management skills.
Requirements
It is essential that you have a degree in an appropriate engineering or scientific discipline, together with a keen interest in the field of health and safety
It is essential that you have extensive offshore industry operational work experience mainly, but not exclusively UK sector.
The successful candidate should also be willing to work out of hours on occasion and to travel within the UK, and occasionally abroad.
