The primary purpose of this role is to manage and improve the use of geo-information, GIS applications and workflows to enable TEPUK to meet its business targets. As such, the individual will work within the Information Management Services team reporting directly to the Head of Data Management. This role will be extended to provide a Methods Advisor function for Geoscience Data Management.
Working as part of the IMS Data Management Team, the job holder will play a key role in delivering services to the Geoscience Business Unit in accordance with their business requirements – it is envisaged that this service will be expanded to other areas of the business in the medium-term. The job holder will also work closely as an integrated member of the Information Management Services organisation.
This role will play an important part in TEPUK’s strategy to provide an integrated data management service. Furthermore, the job holder will be actively involved in promoting the use of geo-information and GIS in order to develop their use within TEPUK.
Activities
GIS support specificities
- Provision of Geomatics support and expert advice to colleagues (drawing office) and customers (GSR, OPS, SHE) alike, in subject areas that will include GIS, geodesy, mapping & cartography practices.
- Ensure the geodetic integrity of existing and newly acquired surveys and map/GIS information, whilst helping colleagues and customers to realize the benefits of GIS and geo-information in meeting their objectives.
- Ensure compliance with agreed standards.
- Be a technical lead for the Senior Cartographer within the Data Management team.
Methods
1- GIS
- Help TEPUK to exert leverage from its Geo-information and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), by managing technology-driven change, and implementing Geo-information databases and GIS architecture for TEPUK’s business units when applicable.
- Lead implementation of new technologies, techniques and practices.
- Sharing knowledge and experiences, adopting ideas of others, keeping abreast of new developments, recognizing technology gaps, knowing what the competition are doing.
- Working regionally with teams in different locations (North Sea area) while maintaining alignment with Global initiatives and policies.
2- Data Management
- Facilitate the implementation of data management workflows, policies and procedures to ensure the ongoing success of GADaMa post project implementation.
- Animate the community of data-providers and data-users to ensure that the policies, procedures and workflows are functioning properly.
- Ensure that the appropriate measures are being taken within the organization to maintain and build upon the philosophy of quality assured data implemented by the project.
Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:-
- Graduate in relevant degree (eg GIS, Geomatics Engineering, Geography, Geology…)
- Experience with the implementation, configuration, support and use of ESRI GIS technology.
- Experience in the application of GIS.
- Experience in the application of data management.
- Experience of working on Windows & UNIX platforms, with Oracle databases and web technologies
