The GRC (Geoscience Research Centre), based in Aberdeen, undertakes pioneering geoscience research for TOTAL in the UK, collaborating closely with other TOTAL Group research centres located within Europe. An opportunity has now arisen for a Computer Scientist position within the team, reporting to the Head of Research Reservoir Engineering.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual at the start of their professional career to play a lead role in code development and project management. Defining system requirements, proposing solutions and implementing new research ideas you will also seek to integrate existing tools and build on applications through strong collaboration with colleagues. The role will require you to develop and maintain strong relationships in Aberdeen and France, including the corporate IT function and you can expect to develop cross business interaction.You will also have the opportunity to train, support and coach colleagues to ensure effective internal technology transfer.
To succeed in this role you should clearly demonstrate the following:
- Degree and postgraduate qualified IT professional with a background in scientific programming
- Expertise in C++, Java, parallel computing, UNIX, LINUX and Windows operating systems as well as visualisation techniques
- A keen interest in research and new developments in computing and networking and an enthusiasm for developing your knowledge. Previous oil and gas or geoscience experience is not required, although experience within a research environment is an advantage
- Successful track record in the timely delivery of high quality technical work
- Excellent communication and team skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-discipline environment
- Willingness to work internationally
